What is…Kickass Women?
“The first rule of Kickass Women is do not talk about Kickass Women.”
Remember the classic scene in Bridget Jones Diary where she navigates a book launch she’s dreading by introducing people to each other with thoughtful facts? For instance,
“Natalia, this is Chloe. Natalia works for Tear Fund, doing advocacy work. Chloe is a youth worker and she’s just graduated in Environmental Sciences. Natalia, maybe you know someone in Tear Fund who might be able to give Chloe a job? Did you know you’ve both been to Africa and love singing?”
As I met amazing woman after amazing woman on my travels, I found myself saying, “Oh, I must introduce you to so-and-so as you’re both interested in x.”
So I decided to start the Kickass Women Mingles, which are invite-only informal gatherings where I introduce great women to each other with helpful details, a la Bridget.
They are invite-only because I need to know enough about each woman to be able to introduce them to each other with helpful details!
I created a virtual version, which is a Kickass Women Facebook group (request to join the Facebook group here).
When is the next Mingle?
The next Kickass Women Mingle will be on the 14th December, from 12pm to 3pm, at the Harrow Work Hub.
This event is called ‘The Kickass Women Christmas Mingle and Makers Market’ and will feature stalls to buy beautiful products by women makers. There will be a Pop-up Cafe and also speed networking, so you can meet every person in the room.
You can book your ticket here on Eventbrite.
If you are a maker and you’d like a free table (as this is a new venture) to sell your products, please leave me a comment below. There are six tables available at time of writing.
What will a Kickass Women Mingle be like?
The Mingles are organised when a group of ladies want me to organise one!
The membership of Kickass Women are a formidable bunch that I know individually. I can tell you why each person there is a Kickass Woman – maybe they are an awesome mum of three, winning awards, changing careers, running networking groups or even influencing Parliament. And they won’t thrust their business card into your face! Hands up if you know what I mean…
Kickass Women Mingles are run in partnership with Harrow Council, London Business Partnership and Natwest as well as venues like the Lighthouse Community Cafe. In these cases, my partners invite people they know and recommend personally in the same spirit as I do. So you can be assured it is a ‘curated’ mingle of women!
