I have a somewhat unusual approach to most things in life, and doing Joy Factory is no different! If you’ve met me you’ll know I’m not afraid to stand out, that I love bright colours and patterns and I’m quite joyful. I guess this comes from being an artist and also the amazing imagination and storytelling skills my dad passed on to me.
I love working with people, which is why I ran arts education projects for gangs and refugees in my 20s and I enjoy doing training and consultation so much. I work with people using active listening. I help people to get to the most pressing, urgent task or matter.
I love to learn new things. I go to training on social media, marketing, business development and PR whenever I can. I love a good talk on theology or learning more about mindfulness. I go on a ‘cave day’ once a quarter, to switch everything off and think about the most important strategic to-do items.
I’m passionate about helping in the mental health field and in particular in Perinatal Services. I had Postpartum Psychosis after the birth of my little one, Isaac. I was in Coombe Wood Mother and Baby Unit for a few months. When I recovered, I was asked to be a Peer Worker and help design Perinatal Services for Harrow and Brent. I am massively proud to see this service now launched and working.
I volunteer in Mind Charity Shop every week and I love doing visual merchandising and seeing stuff sell!
I will always, always, always stand up for justice and tackle what’s not right. This is why I run ‘Kickass Women’; (A members event and a Facebook group for women I’ve met.)
I’m dedicated to mindfulness and good self-care. I practice it daily through gardening, walks, cooking, breaks, sketching and making stuff. But most importantly, doing the things I want to do, through ‘deep work’ (basically saying ‘no’ more often).
I make time for going to art galleries and museums to stay up to date with design and get inspired for my own art. I love travelling and having adventures. I am a typography geek and am forever snapping vintage things in boot sales!
My little boy, Isaac, is my main project! I want to work when I can to show him a good example of doing what I love and am good at as well as being a working self-employed mum.
I love being joyful and silly! I have a growing number of knitted friends (especially my official mascot, Zingy). I love stationery and stickers and have a growing selection of 80s toys. I love to sing. I even sing karaoke in my living room! And a good day off for me is to go on a rollercoaster.
